Why we exist

Good charity governance is not a bureaucratic exercise — it is the foundation of every effective and trustworthy organisation. Trustees take on significant legal and moral responsibilities, often as volunteers, and they deserve high-quality, accessible support to do that job well.

Charity Governance brings together the most important guidance, policy frameworks and governance tools in one place, structured around the realities of trustee life — not legal theory.

What we focus on

We believe that policies are the centrepiece of governance, not a paperwork afterthought. Every policy a charity holds is a commitment — to beneficiaries, funders, staff and the public. We help trustees understand which policies are essential, what they should cover, and where to find authoritative templates.

We also draw heavily on the Charity Governance Code and the Charity Commission's essential trustee guidance, helping boards understand not just what they must do, but what they should aspire to.

Trustee-first

Everything on this site is designed around the needs of trustees — the people who bear ultimate responsibility.

Policy-centred

We treat policies as the core expression of good governance, not an administrative footnote.

Evidence-based

All guidance links to authoritative sources — the Charity Commission, the Governance Code, and NCVO.
